Featuring five songs penned by the producing pair, it&#8217;s got their quintessential Disco sound of the late 70s topped by Donna McGhee&#8217;s superb vocals. These have also blessed recordings by The Fatback Band, Phreek, Bumblebee Unlimited and The Universal Robot Band around the same time. The album has been an elusive affair since it first came out in 1978\u00a0and this is one the first times in decades\u00a0it is widely available in its original form with newly remastered audio.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Donna McGhee<\/strong> has been one of the key female singers of\u00a0the New York disco scene, gracing several cult albums with her superb singing. The\u00a0Brooklyn native began her\u00a0career\u00a0singing Gospel in her grandmother&#8217;s choir from an early age, honing her skills and making a name for herself locally as a talented singer. Her first break in the industry came when she was\u00a0spotted by bass player <strong>Johnny Flippin<\/strong>, who invited her to join his band. The group was\u00a0none other than The\u00a0<strong>Fatback Band<\/strong> led by drummer\u00a0<strong>Bill Curtis<\/strong>. This was\u00a01975 and the\u00a0album was &#8220;<strong>Raising Hell.<\/strong>&#8221; McGhee&#8217;s\u00a0vocals can be heard throughout\u00a0the album including\u00a0 the dancefloor\u00a0classic <strong>&#8220;(Are You Ready) Do The Bus Stop&#8221;<\/strong> and after this initial collaboration, she stayed with the group for a another few years recording \u201cNight Fever\u201d in 1976 and touring with them all around the country.<\/p>\n<p>Following an encounter with producer\u00a0<strong>Greg Carmichael<\/strong>, Donna McGhee\u00a0jumped ship and started working\u00a0with the prolific producer and his partner <strong>Patrick Adams<\/strong>. A string of collaborations followed with singles and albums that have become the stuff of legend over the years: Donna can indeed be heard singing with <strong>Bumblebee Unlimited<\/strong>, <strong>Universal robot Band<\/strong> and on <strong>Phreek&#8217;s<\/strong> classic self-titled album from 1978, singing on the track &#8220;May My Love Be With You.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In 1978, After Greg Carmichael set up his own label, Red Greg Records, he and Adams decided to get McGhee in\u00a0the recording studio and produce her first solo album. With the pair playing most of the instruments, they got five tracks out of the session. The result,\u00a0&#8220;Make It Last Forever&#8221;\u00a0is an all-time\u00a0Adams\/Carmichael\u00a0classic: funky disco arrangements with a touch of\u00a0synths over a pulsating\u00a0groove magnified by McGhee&#8217;s superb sexy singing.<\/p>\n<p>All five tracks have\u00a0become classics\u00a0in their own right. &#8220;<strong>I&#8217;m A Love Bug<\/strong>&#8221; was a remake of Bumblebee Unlimited&#8217;s cult favourite from 1976, &#8220;Love Bug&#8221; (also released on Carmichael&#8217;s Red Greg label) while &#8220;Make It Last Forever&#8221; was later re-recordeded by Inner Life (featuring Jocelyn Brown). &#8220;<strong>Do As I Do<\/strong>&#8221; and &#8220;<strong>Mr. Blindman<\/strong>&#8221; keep the groove going and finally,\u00a0we have &#8220;<strong>It Ain&#8217;t No Big Thing<\/strong>.&#8221;\u00a0The remake of a 1976 single by Personal Touch, produced by\u00a0Adams for his PAP\u00a0label and arranged by\u00a0Leroy Burgess, it is one of the highlights of the album and is a superb catchy composition which has\u00a0now become\u00a0a true underground disco standard.<\/p>\n<p>The album didn&#8217;t have a huge impact when it first came out hence its rarity.
