M\u00eame dans ses meilleurs moments (\u00ab\u00a0The Miniature Philosopher\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0A Collection Of Poems About Water\u00a0\u00bb), The Gay Parade pencherait presque du c\u00f4t\u00e9 sombre de la vie. Presque car cet album d\u00e9mesur\u00e9 et conceptuel accumule les couches de clowneries pop et de psych\u00e9 vaudevillesque pour construire un \u00e9difice d\u2019indie pop des plus beatlesques. Sous des airs de grand carnaval burlesque, il y a dans ce disque une multitude d\u2019id\u00e9es et d\u2019arrangements complexes et un sens particuli\u00e8rement aff\u00fbt\u00e9 de la m\u00e9lodie. \u00c0 l\u2019\u00e9poque, Of Montreal jouait d\u00e9j\u00e0 dans la cour des groupes particuli\u00e8rement int\u00e9ressants.
