En 1978, The Clean \u00e9tait un pionnier du mouvement punk n\u00e9o-z\u00e9landais. L\u2019influence du groupe compos\u00e9 des fr\u00e8res Hamish et Davis Kilgour et du bassiste Robert Scott (The Bats) r\u00e9sonne aujourd\u2019hui non seulement en Nouvelle-Z\u00e9lande mais aussi \u00e0 travers le monde entier. Avec Unknown Country le groupe livre en 1996 son album le plus spontan\u00e9 et exp\u00e9rimental. L\u2019album est \u00e9crit en grande partie sur place au studio et illustre particuli\u00e8rement leur obsession de constamment innover, que l\u2019on remarque sp\u00e9cialement \u00e0 travers des titres comme \u00ab\u00a0Wipe Me, I\u2019m Lucky\u00a0\u00bb ou encore \u00ab\u00a0Franz Kafka at the Zoo\u00a0\u00bb. On y retrouve d\u2019ailleurs un morceau compl\u00e8tement inhabituel avec \u00ab\u00a0Balkans\u00a0\u00bb qui est le seul morceau du groupe dans lequel celui-ci n\u2019appara\u00eet pas, les pistes ayant \u00e9t\u00e9 supprim\u00e9es pour laisser enti\u00e8rement la place au musicien Alan Starrett.<\/p>\n
