Cette collection de chansons a \u00e9t\u00e9 enregistr\u00e9e trois ans avant la sortie de leur premier album officiel <strong>The Creek Drank the Cradle<\/strong> en 2002 chez <strong>Sub Pop<\/strong>. \u00c0 cette \u00e9poque, le concept d\u2019<strong>Iron &amp; Wine<\/strong> n\u2019existait pas encore. Le songwriter folk <strong>Sam Beam<\/strong> \u00e9tudiait alors \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Floride avec l\u2019intention de poursuivre une carri\u00e8re dans le cin\u00e9ma. <strong><em>Tallahassee<\/em><\/strong> a \u00e9t\u00e9 enregistr\u00e9 en 1998-1999 avec son colocataire et futur membre du groupe <strong>EJ Holowicki<\/strong>. Ils couchent pr\u00e8s de 24 chansons, id\u00e9es et croquis, avec EJ \u00e0 la basse, et Sam au chant, \u00e0 la guitare, \u00e0 l\u2019harmonica et \u00e0 la batterie. Les enregistrements \u2013 captur\u00e9s dans leur maison \u2013 ont ce c\u00f4t\u00e9 \u201clive in the room\u201d que l\u2019on retrouve dans Harvest de Neil Young ou Five Leaves Left de Nick Drake.
