En 1980, Genesis P-Orridge et Peter \u00ab\u00a0Sleazy\u00a0\u00bb Christopherson, du groupe Throbbing Gristle, se rendent \u00e0 New York pour retrouver le c\u00e9l\u00e8bre \u00e9crivain beat et pionnier culturel William S. Burroughs et son ex\u00e9cuteur testamentaire James Grauerholz. Genesis et Sleazy s\u2019attelent \u00e0 la t\u00e2che colossale de compiler les \u0153uvres sonores exp\u00e9rimentales de Burroughs, qui, jusqu’alors, n’avaient jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 entendues par un large public. Il s\u2019agit notamment d\u2019exp\u00e9rimentations de spoken word \u00ab\u00a0cut-up\u00a0\u00bb sur magn\u00e9tophone, d\u2019enregistrements de terrain issus de ses voyages et de ses flirts avec les techniques d’enregistrement EVP, mises au point par l’intellectuel letton Konstantins Raudive. Ils passent d’innombrables heures \u00e0 compiler diverses versions, chaque collection mettant en \u00e9vidence l’oreille sensible et les prouesses exp\u00e9rimentales de Burroughs en mati\u00e8re d’anomalie sonore dans le cadre des limitations techniques. Sorti au printemps 1981, l’album sera la derni\u00e8re sortie d’Industrial Records, suite \u00e0 la dissolution de Throbbing Gristle. Il est rest\u00e9 discr\u00e8tement sold out jusqu’en 1998, lorsque John Giorno et son collectif Giorno Poetry Systems incluent l’album dans un coffret CD r\u00e9trospectif qui compile la majorit\u00e9 des enregistrements s\u00e9minaux de Burroughs. En 2015, Dais Records travaille en \u00e9troite collaboration avec les h\u00e9ritiers de William S. Burroughs pour enfin r\u00e9\u00e9diter, pour la premi\u00e8re fois en 36 ans, cette \u0153uvre sur vinyle \u00e0 l\u2019occasion du centenaire de William S. Burroughs. Pour l’\u00e9dition 2023, Dais a remast\u00e9ris\u00e9 le son avec l’ing\u00e9nieur renomm\u00e9 Josh Bonati, et restaur\u00e9 l’\u0153uvre originale avec une nouvelle d\u00e9dicace \u00e0 Genesis Breyer P-Orridge et Peter Christopherson.
