La premi\u00e8re missive musicale du duo Writhing Squares form\u00e9 par Daniel Provenzano, ancien bassiste de Purling Hiss, et Kevin Nickles, saxophoniste et chanteur d’Ecstatic Vision, a \u00e9t\u00e9 lanc\u00e9e en 2013. Plusieurs singles, split releases, albums plus tard, nous arrivons au quatri\u00e8me album du duo, Mythology, leur troisi\u00e8me pour le label Trouble In Mind Records. Des morceaux comme \u201cBarbarians\u201d et \u201cLEM\u201d sont des classiques de Writhing Squares ; des assauts brutaux, agressifs et in\u00e9branlables de sci-fi punk influenc\u00e9 par Motorhead\/Stooges, tandis que d’autres comme le funk mutant de \u201cChromatophage\u201d et le techno-slink de \u201cCerberus\u201d ont une s\u00e9rieuse dette envers l’\u00e8re \u00e9lectrique de Miles Davis ou Herbie Hancock et montrent que le groupe a plus \u00e0 offrir que de vous matraquer avec de la force sonore. Le duo est rejoint par le batteur John Schoemaker – qui avait particip\u00e9 \u00e0 Chart For The Solution, sur l’\u00e9pique morceau de cl\u00f4ture \u00ab\u00a0Epilogue\u00a0\u00bb – dont la pulsation percussive ajoute un swing organique aux sonorit\u00e9s de Writhing Squares, en particulier sur \u00ab\u00a0The Damned Thing\u00a0\u00bb. Writhing Squares est dans une phase de transition, tra\u00e7ant une nouvelle mythologie sonore pour eux-m\u00eames.
