Une approche radicalement d\u00e9pouill\u00e9e, guid\u00e9e par une urgence sauvage et visc\u00e9rale. Inspir\u00e9 \u00e0 la fois par l\u2019American Primitive Guitar et les ragas indiens, Bishop cherche \u00e0 bousculer les codes du genre en jouant avec une forme de \u00ab reckless abandon \u00bb. Il \u00e9vite toute structure pr\u00e9visible au profit du rythme, du mouvement et d\u2019un jeu brut, presque instinctif. Loin d\u2019un hommage sage \u00e0 la tradition, l\u2019album sonne comme une s\u00e9rie d\u2019incantations venues d\u2019un recoin oubli\u00e9 de l\u2019Am\u00e9rique. Hillbilly Ragas \u00e9voque ainsi un personnage fictif : un ermite musical, isol\u00e9 dans les bois, n\u2019ayant jamais connu les conventions du folk. \u00c0 travers lui, Bishop cr\u00e9e une mythologie sonore o\u00f9 se m\u00ealent folklore invent\u00e9, spiritualit\u00e9 distordue et une libert\u00e9 totale d\u2019interpr\u00e9tation.
